In the realm of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), women have historically been underrepresented. This disparity limits individual potential and narrows the collective horizon of innovation. Recognizing this, PomeGran has taken a step forward with our Women in STEM Scholarship Program.

Launched on International Women’s Day in 2022, PomeGran’s initiative is more than financial aid; it’s a catalyst for change. The program has committed to funding 6 to 10 scholarships annually over a five-year period, with a total minimum investment of $150,000. This commitment goes beyond numbers; it’s about nurturing talent and fostering a culture of inclusivity.

The scholarships are awarded to deserving students in partnership with esteemed post-secondary institutions across Canada. These scholarships are a testament to PomeGran’s dedication to social responsibility and our twenty plus year long-standing commitment to ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles.

The recipients, hailing from diverse backgrounds, are selected based on academic excellence and a demonstrated passion for their field. To be eligible for the scholarships, both domestic and international women pursuing STEM studies must meet specific requirements, including a minimum academic standing. Applicants are required to provide a detailed explanation of why they believe they deserve the scholarship and how receiving it would impact their lives. Additionally, they must describe their ideal job after graduation, outlining how it relates to their respective program or industry.

To date, PomeGran has awarded four scholarships. Two outstanding students from the Software Engineering Technology and Technician programs were awarded the inaugural scholarships at Centennial College. Similarly, Northern College and College of the North Atlantic celebrated the awarding of their respective Women in STEM scholarships from CochraneTel and IceNet, two subsidiaries of PomeGran.

But why is this important? Every scholarship awarded is a step towards bridging the gender gap in STEM fields. It’s about creating role models and showing that women do not only belong in STEM but can also lead and innovate. PomeGran’s initiative helps dismantle barriers and paves the way for a future where talent thrives, irrespective of gender.
