Grant will transform Digicom from a Wireless Internet Pioneer to a leader in FTTH on six municipalities in the Outaouais region.

Alma, QC, CANADA and Toronto, ON, CANADA (May 25, 2022) – Digicom Inc. (Digicom) of Alma, Quebec is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a grant by the Quebec Government’s ‎Secretariat for High-Speed Internet and Special Connectivity Projects‎, Ministry of the Executive Council,‎ to provide Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) to 2056 homes.

The grant will enable Digicom to build a 277 km fibre backhaul FTTH network, to enable high-speed broadband providing a minimum speed of 50 Mbps/10 Mbps to 2056 households in six different communities in the province of Quebec are located in these municipalities: Alleyn-et-Cawood, Gatineau, La Pêche, Low and Val-des-Monts. The project completion date is September 30, 2022.

“We are very pleased to partner with the government to offer fibre-to-the-home to these households in the Outaouais region. This deployment bridges the region’s digital divide by providing value-added services to households in desperate need of high-speed internet access. This is a transformational mandate for Digicom that will establish the company as one of the leading independent fiber-to-the-home providers in the province,” stated Christine Marion, Vice President, Digicom.

“Over the past year, the government has spared no effort to accelerate the deployment of Internet in the regions. We mobilized the federal government, worked with the municipal sector, settled the pole wars, precisely mapped the places without service and worked with suppliers to iron out all the difficulties. More than $1 billion has been set aside to support work in all regions of Quebec. This new agreement with Digicom is another step in the right direction. Together, we will make Quebec a world leader in regional connectivity,” stated Gilles Bélanger, Parliamentary Assistant to the Prime Minister (high-speed Internet).

“Access to high-speed Internet is essential for the vitality of our regions, as well as for their social and economic development. With the pandemic, the essential aspect of this service has been amplified. Today’s announcement demonstrates, once again, that each of the players – small and large businesses, organizations, MRCs as well as all levels of government – must get involved and contribute in their own way, in order to be able, together, to meet the challenge of serving all Quebec households by September,”

said Mathieu Lacombe, Minister of Family Affairs, Minister responsible for the Outaouais region and Deputy for Papineau.

“This is a foundational project not only for Digicom, but for the PomeGran group of companies. We are very pleased to partner with the government of Quebec to bring broadband to thousands of households in 6 communities in Outaouais and look forward to helping the Premier fulfill his commitment to the people of Quebec,” said Dr. Kalai S. Kalaichelvan, Chairman & CEO, PomeGran.
