PomeGran Provides Northern Ontario Gigabit Fibre Project Progress Update
On November 28, 2025, PomeGran hosted its third webinar to share the latest progress on the Northern Ontario Gigabit Fibre Project. The update focused on company milestones, construction, partnerships, and ongoing community engagement.
Project Progress
This year marked major momentum for PomeGran. We ranked #62 overall and #1 in telecom services on The Globe and Mail’s Report on Business list of Canada’s Top Growing Companies for 2025, and introduced NIVO, our new ISP brand designed to bring high-speed fibre to underserved regions.
Overview and Updates:
• Project footprint expanded to more than 50,000 square kilometres
• Servicing nearly 19,000 underserved homes, including about 2,600 Indigenous households
• Municipal consent secured across all 44 communities involved
• Construction reached 239 kilometres of aerial fibre and 16 kilometres of underground fibre
• Eleven fibre hubs installed, with five now live and connected to our Toronto core
Aerial routes help us reach remote areas efficiently, while underground builds ensure long-term reliability.
Community Engagement
Community conversations continue to guide the project’s rollout. Robert Peace, Community Engagement and Operational Marketing Manager, meets with residents through town halls, local events, and one-on-one visits to introduce NIVO and understand local needs. Hiring locally and purchasing in-region strengthens the local economy while improving digital access.
Fibre connectivity also delivers environmental benefits. It reduces energy use, emissions, and maintenance waste, while enabling digital tools that decrease travel and resource consumption. Full network completion remains on track for 2026, with additional underserved areas being assessed for future phases.
Partnerships
Progress across such a large region depends on strong collaboration. Nokia provides network equipment, LiteLinx supports outside plant solutions, and Beameo and CYIENT lead network design. Construction partners Valard, Tandem, and WesTower continue building the infrastructure, supported by funding partners who help extend service into remote communities.
Together, these efforts are bringing reliable gigabit and multi-gigabit connectivity closer to homes, businesses, and communities across Northern Ontario.
