Cochrane, ON, Canada & Toronto, ON, Canada (November 16, 2023) – PomeGran Inc., a leading owner and operator of fibre and fixed wireless rural broadband networks across North America, under the brands of IceNet Wireless, CochraneTel, Canquest Communications and Digicom, is pleased to announce the awarding of a CochraneTel Scholarship for Women in STEM, with Northern College on November 15, 2023.
“As Northern Ontario embraces future growth and opportunities, educating students is a critical part of our future. We are delighted that Christine Marion, Chief Operating Officer of CochraneTel, has awarded a Scholarship at Northern College to a Woman in STEM,” said His Worship, Peter Politis, Mayor of Cochrane, Ontario.
Both Domestic and International Women in STEM students were eligible for the CochraneTel Scholarship, with a specified minimum Academic Standing. The applicants had to outline why they thought they were deserving of this scholarship, and how it would impact their lives. They also had to describe what their ideal job would be after they graduate, related to their respective program or industry.
“Northern College is proud to offer this scholarship, funded by CochraneTel. The difference these awards make in a student’s life goes well beyond the dollar value; it allows students to believe in themselves, which is the greatest key to success we can give any graduate,” said Dr. Audrey J. Penner, President, and CEO Northern College.
“Education is an important part of career development, especially for Women in STEM students in pursuit of jobs in traditionally under-represented industries that utilize Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Women continue to have fewer opportunities to study and work in STEM jobs, and we want to inspire and support women towards gender equality in STEM fields,” said Christine Marion, Chief Operating Officer, CochraneTel.
PomeGran has had a long 20-year history of being socially responsible with ESG partnerships across all sectors. Specifically, PomeGran launched the Women in STEM program in 2022 on International Women’s Day, and has committed to investing in 6 – 10 Women in STEM Scholarships for Colleges in Ontario, Atlantic Canada, and Quebec over a five-year period, investing a total of $150,000.
